2008 Charge to Committees

The organizarional focus will be: Pediatric Medication Safety.

The Board charges the Advocacy Committee with the following goals:

  1. Complete three to four position papers including SSRIs and LABAs
  2. Complete Tool Kit for standardized concentrations
  3. Complete Parent Tool Kit relating to medication use in schools and daycare settings
  4. Complete information statements for parents on use of medications in children including information on medication reconciliation requirement for hospitals
  5. Send completed survey of pediatric pharmacy practices out to membership; analyze responses; and make results available
  6. Continue selection of best practice awards
  7. Identify at least one individual each for the Yaffe and Helms awards, and forward to the respective awards committees.

The Board charges the Education and Research Committee with the following goals:

  1. Continue identification of topics for and development of home-study programs (on-line CE) for aged-based competencies for Pediatrics to meet Joint Commission requirement
  2. Develop and organize 2008 Specialty Meeting focused on NICU/PICU therapeutic issues, incorporating safe medication use in infants and children
  3. Develop general educational programs for 2008 Annual Meeting with no particular focus
  4. Designate a “point person” to develop programming at 2008 ASHP MCM.
  5. Develop four clinical practice surveys that inform the membership about similarities and differences in pediatric practice. 
  6. Begin to develop a plan and process for multicenter medication use studies, as a way to initiate collaborative research among PPAG members.
  7. Identify at least one individual each for the Yaffe and Helms awards, and forward to the respective awards committees.

The Board charges the Membership Services Committee with the following goals:

  1. Continue to publish quarterly newsletter and explore opportunities to expand content
  2. Continue to provide timely information on current topics and/or alerts, especially as they relate to safe medication use in children.
  3. Develop a plan to increase membership
  4. Maintain and promote residency database; attempt to include those pediatric residencies that are listed in ASHP and/or ACCP directories that are missing from PPAG’s database
  5. Identify at least one individual each for the Yaffe and Helms awards, and forward to the respective awards committees.

The Board charges the Finance Committee with the following goals:

  1. Develop a Standard Operating Procedure for financial reporting
  2. Develop an internal audit process
  3. Move fiscal year from the existing August à July to the calendar year, January à December
  4. Conduct Silent Auction at the Annual Meeting
  5. Explore additional non-dues revenue streams, maximize current revenue streams
  6. Solicit unrestricted grants, sponsorships, and donations from industry, foundations, etc

The Board charges themselves with the following goals:

  1. Identify and appoint a Vice President of Finance
  2. Become a quick response team on behalf of the organization to respond to emergent issues related to safe medication use in children
  3. Propose a resolution to develop an Advisory Committee to the Board of Directors, which includes all Past Presidents/Chairs of PPAG
  4. Continue pursuit of an Industry Advisory Committee
  5. Identify at least one individual each for the Yaffe and Helms awards, and forward to the respective awards committees.

The Board charges the Executive Committee with the following goals:

  1. Improve communications and efficiency between the Board, VP, and Executive Director.
  2. Formulate a “SWAT” approach to address current issues that may require a statement by or response from PPAG, and develop a set of topics with accompanying suggested key points to assist in timely response to current events related to safe medication use in children
